Thanks for visiting!
Hi,
My
name's Stephanie and I look forward to meeting you. I became a
massage therapist because I love being able to help other people to
live with less pain and more joy. I'm grateful to now have the
opportunity to do that in beautiful Sechelt, B.C. I am a Registered
Massage Therapist, which means that your insurance may help cover
your visits with me.
I
began my professional life with a business degree (Cornell
University), but it felt unsatisfying and then in my late twenties I
began to suffer from job related low back pain. A co-worker suggested
I see her massage therapist. These treatments, along with a remedial
exercise routine and some life style changes went a long way to
managing my back pain. My own positive changes led me to want to help
others receive the same results so I returned to school and graduated
from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy in 1999. I practised
at Avalon Wellness in West Vancouver for over two years and the
following nine years at Vitality Treatment Centre in Victoria. Over
the years I have volunteered to help people with HIV/AIDs, and worked
with such diverse populations as MS sufferers, student athletes, and
the elderly. I continued receiving regular massage treatments for
specific concerns—such as training for a half marathon or a
shoulder injury and to help maintain my own health. I became so
passionate about the benefit of what I was doing I became a primary
instructor and clinical supervisor at the West Coast College
(Victoria campus) from 2005 to 2010. Then my spouse suggested we move
to Sechelt, B.C. for his work. Once I did some research on it, I
couldn't wait to move here!
As
a Registered Massage Therapist, I received over 3000 hours of
academic and practical training in order to bring you safe and
effective treatment. From this base I continually renew and grow my
skills with continuing education courses. I have turned my focus to
using Myofascial
Release
with a combination of other techniques. In 2000 I began training with
John Barnes, PT, in the US, and continued with great instructors in
BC. In 2010 I had the opportunity to learn from Willie Fourie, PT,
from South Africa who is working with patients recovering from breast
cancer surgery. Currently, I am interested in scar release
treatments. At Vitality, I have had the privilege to work with
patients who are dealing with the surgical effects of cancer. In many cases, this involves
working on connective tissue that has become dysfunctional post
surgery. It is very gratifying to see patients return to good, functional movement and begin to enjoy their daily activities with increasing ease and freedom.
